Slingshot
Entertainment releases two exceptional classic screwball
comedies, Beat the Devil and That Uncertain Feeling.
Beat the Devil, directed in 1955 by John Huston,
represents a rousing departure for the male lead,
Humphrey Bogart, and exudes sophisticated, keen
humor in the lively crafted madcap plot. That Uncertain
Feeling by director Ernst Lubitsch, circa 1941,
represents the outrageous, yet subtle humor and
the virtuoso visual wit that is branded "the
Lubitsch Touch."
This double feature shares the unmistakable screwball
comedy plot with undertones of Film Noir that focus
on role manipulation between the sexes and wacky
oddball behavior. Both wedded female leads, Jennifer
Jones and Merle Oberon, appear to be irrational
and scatterbrained and unabashedly caught up in
romantic pursuit for another man. These movies still
have resonance for our modern society and remain
cult favorites.
